In General

Q: Where is the class taught?
A: At Michael's North Vancouver.

Q: Can I just drop in to take the class?
A: No.  You need to visit the store in person at least 24 hours in advance of the class starting time and register.  Registration fee is $35.00 plus applicable taxes.  If there is any promotion (
40% off, 50% off, etc.) for that month, that fee will change.

Q: Can I bring another person to the class?
A: All the people who are going to be in the classroom have to register as a student.  Unless there is special condition, non-registered persons cannot stay in the classroom.  If there is any questions, please go to "Contact" page to send me a message.

Course 1

Q: Can anybody take Course 1?
A: Yes, anybody who is interested in Cake Decorating.  But there are  few things you need to consider.
  • All the courses have 4 lessons.  One lesson is 2-hours.  One lesson per week for 4 weeks.
  • The class is taught in English.  You have to be able to communicate in English.
  • You have to be at least 14 years old to take the course alone.  If at least one parent/guardian is going to be present at all times, 8 years old and up can register with the parent/guardian.
Q: Does the Student Kit have everything I need for the class?
A: Unfortunately not.  You will need meringue powder, piping gel, icing sugar and vegetable shortening, and as you start to decorate, you may feel the need for additional decorating tools and supplies.

Q: What do I need to bring to the first lesson?
A:  Pen/Pencil, memo pad, scissors, and Student Kit for Course 1.


Q: I have some decorating tools.  Do I have to purchase the Student Kit?

Q: Do I have to take Course 1 if I want to take other course(s)?
A: Yes, you have to take Course 1 to be able to take any other courses.  Unless you have equivalent previous experience (see if you can do all the things listed in "Course 1" page), you have to take Course 1.

Course 2

Q: Do I have to take Course 1 before I take Course 2?
A: Yes.  Course 1 is prerequisite for Course 2, unless you have equivalent previous experiences (go to the "Course 1" page and see if you can do all the things listed in that page).  If you have any questions, please go to "Contact" page.

Q: Do I have to take Course 2 before I take Course 3?
A: No.  You can take Course 3 after you've taken the Course 1.  Although you may find some techniques easier if you have taken Course 2 before Course 3.

Q: What do I need to bring to the first lesson?
A: Pen/Pencil, scissors, Student Kits (Course 1 & 2), Class Buttercream Icing (approximately 1 cup of thin, 1 cup of medium, 1 cup of stiff), 1 1/2-inch waxed paper squares and about 12" x 8" sheet of waxed paper.

Q: I have some decorating tools.  Do I have to purchase the Student Kit?
A: Click here and see what you have and what you'll need to purchase.  The Course 2 Student Kit includes Colour Flow Mix and two small oval cake pans.  You will need the Colour Flow Mix which is available for purchase in a small can, the pans may be substituted with any small cake pan (about 6 to 7 inches).

Course 3

Q: Do I have to take Course 1 before I take Course 3?
A: Yes.  Course 1 is prerequisite for Course 3, unless you have equivalent previous experiences (go to the "Course 1" page and see if you can do all the things listed in that page).  If you have any questions, please go to "Contact" page.


Q: What do I need to bring to the first lesson?
A: Pen/Pencil, scissors, Student Kits (Course 1, Course 2, Course 3), Class Buttercream Icing (approximately 1 cup each of thin, medium and stiff consistency).  Don't forget the practice board and the practice board stand!


Q:
I would like to learn how to work with rolled fondant.  Which course do you recommend?

A: If you want to learn how to cover a cake with fondant, how to make tiered cakes, then I recommend Course 3.  If you want to learn how to cover a cake with fondant, I recommend Fondant and Gum Paste course.

Q: Do I have to take Course 1 before I take Fondant & Gum Paste course?

Q:
Do I have to take Course 3 before I take Fondant & Gum Paste course ?

A: No, you don't have to take Course 3 to take Fondant & Gum Paste course. 

Q: I was hoping to learn how to make a specific flower but that flower is not in the textbook.
A: You just have to tell me which flower you would like to make!  I can usually fit a couple extra flowers in this course.
